The performing arts, specifically dance and theatre, represent the oldest formal means of communal expression and experience of the divine. Since prehistoric times they have mediated humanity’s striving to understand itself, to understand the world in which we find ourselves, and to experience a mystical oneness with the source of this world.

It is widely understood that today’s performing arts have their roots in ancient religious and spiritual rituals, which were and are today inherently theatrical. Because of this ritual connection, there are elements and benefits of spiritual practice in the development and work of dancers and actors. Thanks to these deeply spiritual roots, the performing arts still offer us pathways of spiritual exploration, individually and collectively.

The imagined lines we tend to draw between dance, theatre and spiritual practice – including meditation in various forms – will blur and disappear at this coming Winter School. We will explore along with our guest teachers how these old and timeless forms of expression can become new vehicles for personal and communal development, mindfulness, and creativity.

El Haddawi is a school for Movement Concept®, dance, martial arts, and body work. It works at the interface between body work, performing arts, and spirituality. With methods based on work with the body, incorporating meditation and humour we approach mystic experience and understanding.

We are pleased to be able to offer a unique festival concept which El Haddawi has instituted for many years. Both the participants and the invited teachers will take part in all workshops together throughout the Winter School. This creates a very personal and inspiring atmosphere which enhances the exchange between teachers and students.
